Last month saw the second expansion pack called Guns, Love and Tentacles arrive which took players to a brand new planet filled with crazy cultists attempting to stop Hammerlock and Jacobs from finally tying the knot. Gearbox also gave players a spring roadmap filled with new content to look forward to like the complete reinvention of the Mayhem mode.

Also on the schedule was something called Revenge of the Cartels, which looks to be another mini-event of sorts. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming special Borderlands 3 event.

What is Revenge of the Cartels?

While not quite seasonal as the Bloody Harvest was to Halloween or Broken Hearts Day was for Valentine’s Day, Revenge of the Cartels is largely structured like those events. When it launches this month, the event will last six weeks, though players will be able to toggle it off from the main menu at any time.

Just like the past two events, Maurice has another mission for the player. This time around, the Saurian has found himself in a bit of a jam with a character called Joey Ultraviolet. Joey’s coming to collect the debt that Maurice owes him and of course, he’s a bit low on cash. As such, the player will encounter different thugs throughout the base game and campaign add-on locations. Their neon attire will give them away and once the player has taken enough of them out, a new portal on Sanctuary III opens.

Introducing The Mansion

Traveling through the portal takes players to a new location called The Mansion, the headquarters of Joey Ultraviolet and the rest of his crew. Unlike Heck from the Bloody Harvest, The Mansion is more dynamic and changes based on which of the three gangs currently holds control. Better yet, players won’t know which enemies they’ll be going up against until the battle starts. Gearbox has also claimed that players won’t see the same faction twice in a row.

Rewards and Challenges

As expected, the event will encourage multiple runs through the Mansion as each faction has its own set of anointed parts and unique items to collect. Once the event arrives, players will have a new set of Cartel-themed Challenges to complete, many of which will unlock special gear and cosmetics, some of which looks like it was taken straight out of the 1980s in terms of fashion style.

Considering that the Broken Hearts Day event feature a couple of powerful weapons designed for the level increase from 50 to 53, this Cartel event should be worth checking out. Unfortunately, Gearbox has not specifically revealed when the event would go live outside of its planned release this month or specifically what sort of loot can be earned by playing.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
