Vision: Like in life, to be successful at anything, you not only need resources but a vision also, and it takes time to execute a vision. Chelsea clearly seems to be missing it. Ever since Roman has taken over at Chelsea, he has demanded instant success from all the managers in charge. Be it Ranieri, Mourinho, Scolari or Ancelotti. Although this has indeed brought him and Chelsea unprecedented successes, it remains clear that whenever their is a dip in the form managers have paid the price. Roman needs to understand that his fickle behaviour of sacking managers now and then is neither helping Chelsea nor his cause. He need to have a long term vision and plan for the club, and more than that, he need to stick with it even in times of adversity.
Manager: This has to be single most important thing for a football club. History suggests that even the most talented of managers need time to demonstrate their ability. Even Sir Alex took seven years to land his first title at United. So what if you have an expensively assembled group of young and talented players. It will still take time for a manager to understand the team and the ability of the players. You need to give the manager time to execute his plans. Unfortunately with Chelsea, this never has been the case. Even the most talented of the lot like AVB have been hired and fired in the blink of an eye. There seems to be only one permanent manager and that is Roman himself.
Determination: The team that won three Premier League title and last year’s Champions League were led by a determined lot of players, like Terry, Lampard and Drogba. They, even in turbulent times, were able to perform. They were denied success multiple times in the form of refereeing blunders, bad luck et all, but yet they always came on top. This is something that seems to be missing from the current lot of players. They are easily bullied by opponents these days, and seem to be content with average performances. That sheer determination that defined Stamford Bridge seems to be missing.
