In terms of improvements, Dead by Daylight has dropped a roadmap that encapsulates almost a year of content up to April 2023. Titled the “Year 7 Roadmap,” a full schedule of content with targeted release windows is available, giving players a lot to look forward to in coming months. Subsequent content is not detailed per-se, as that would ruin the surprise of each new DLC Chapter and its associated character additions, but fans have an idea of when they can expect content for the foreseeable future.

New Chapters Coming to Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight’s Year 7 Roadmap begins with the content that released this month, namely the launch of Chapter 24, Roots of Dread, as well as its killer the Dredge and survivor Haddie Kaur. Tome 12 will release in July, and a new Chapter DLC releases in September.

Dead by Daylight already announced it will feature a second Resident Evil Chapter, and leaks suggest what characters may make an appearance alongside survivors Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine, as well as killer character Nemesis. Chapter 25 and each subsequent Chapter in the Year 7 Roadmap notes a new killer and survivor will be added. Each new Chapter will be preceded and followed by a Tome release. September, October, and November include content back-to-back, then skips to January for a new Tome before returning in March with a new Chapter.

While no mention of new realm maps appear in the timeline for Chapters 25, 26, or 27, it is important to note that Chapter 24 introduced a new map, the Garden of Joy, with no mention of it in the Chapter 24 description on the timeline. This implies that subsequent Chapters could potentially have associable realm maps as well, but that may not necessarily be the case for each one.

This effectively means that Dead by Daylight will be receiving three new Chapter DLCs and four new Tomes in the next 10 months. More information about what each of these drops entail will not be made public until closer to their respective releases, but it is exciting nonetheless.

In-Game Events to Look Forward to in Dead by Daylight

The timeline starts this month, June 2022, and precipitates the in-game sixth anniversary event. But fans of Dead by Daylight who have been around for a while will already know to expect an anniversary event every June, as well as the holiday-themed in-game events that it celebrates.

The roadmap schedules these events on the timeline for October to November, which starts during the release of Tome 13 and Chapter 26; December, which starts during the release of Chapter 26 and Tome 14; and January to February, which starts during the release of Tome 14 and Chapter 27. This is relatively commonplace for Dead by Daylight, but it is still nice to be kept in the loop for fans both old and new to predict when the next in-game event will occur.

The roadmap is likely intended to assist new players in understanding how long it typically takes for content turnaround in Dead by Daylight, and new players may not know that these in-game events happen perennially with particular holidays and other occasions. Because in-game holiday events also introduce new content that Dead by Daylight prefers to keep secret, the Year 7 Roadmap also neglects to share specific information about what rewards and festivities these events will include.

Ongoing Gameplay and Quality-of-Life Improvements in Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight’s sixth anniversary broadcast offered a quick insight into what structural, gameplay changes will be made moving forward. These are perhaps the most exciting and interesting features to note, such as apparent reworks to a number of meta killer and survivor perks and a tutorial mode with dedicated bots.

No exact dates were given for when these changes will be implemented, but seasonal release windows were suggested for this summer and winter. The Year 7 Roadmap does not provide precise dates either, but reiterates what these changes are. In terms of “gameplay improvement and balancing features,” Dead by Daylight lists a “prestige and progression rework,” a “perk balance overhaul,” and a “Mori rework.”

In terms of “quality of life improvements and features,” Dead by Daylight lists “pre-set loadouts” and a “main menu visual update,” which were released with the patch update for Chapter 24. Further, planned features include a “matchmaking incentive,” “archive changes,” a “streamer mode,” a change to the “wiggle escape system,” “bots in custom matches,” and improvements to “gameflow.”

Some of these features were discussed lightly during the sixth anniversary broadcast, but more details will be shared closer to whenever they are planned to release. There are still many concerns the Dead by Daylight fanbase has about the game, and hopefully these issues will also be constructively considered and addressed in the near future. Meanwhile, these are exciting feature additions and improvements that will accompany a ton of new content in the next year, making it a great time to be a Dead by Daylight player.

Dead by Daylight is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
