Releasing on October 18, 2022, A Plague Tale: Requiem will be a direct follow-up once again following Amicia and her brother Hugo as they continue to fend off the Inquisition and the unstoppable swarm of rats, now hoping to find a cure for Hugo’s blood disease. Announced a year ago, A Plague Tale: Requiem looks to be building on the original in some significant ways, and the slew of trailers released so far give fans a great look at those upcoming improvements.

A Plague Tale: Requiem - Official Reveal Trailer
Announced during E3 2021, the first A Plague Tale: Requiem trailer does a great job of reintroducing fans to the setting and tone of the first game. As the camera stretches down an abandoned town street, revealing corpses surrounded by flies and upturned carts, a voice-over asks where these “things” come from, to which the voice of Amicia replies “from all of us, from what we do to him.” Upon being asked if she can stop the oncoming horde, Amicia replies that she doesn’t know, but she’s willing to die for her brother.
As she says this, a sea of rats crash onto the abandoned street, destroying everything in its path. Fans then get a glimpse of some story beats, showing Hugo inside a prison cell, Amicia taking down several Inquisition soldiers, and showing her standing in front of the oncoming sea of rats with a crossbow. The trailer ends with Hugo opening his eyes, crying, and turning to face the scenic Southern France shoreline alone.
A Plague Tale: Requiem - TGA 2021: Gameplay Reveal Trailer
During the 2021 Game Awards, fans got their first look at gameplay for A Plague Tale: Requiem. Though the trailer is only a minute-and-a-half long, it packs a lot in. The trailer shows off some sequences reminiscent of the first game, with Amicia and Hugo walking through a swarm of rats, using a torch to light the way and scatter the horde.
A quick montage of gameplay sequences show Amicia using her new crossbow to kill a guard, and using a stealth takedown on another. A few large-scale cinematic sequences are also hinted at, with Amicia running away from a wall of flames, firing a ship’s ballista at enemy fortifications on a bridge, and an entire castle being obliterated by rats. The trailer ends with Amicia crying out that she “feels her mind going” before the scene cuts to an ominous cave, where a body hangs from chains. It seems as though A Plague Tale: Requiem will focus heavily on Hugo’s ability to control the infected rats, and that at some stage in the game he’ll lose control.

A Plague Tale: Requiem - End of Innocence Gameplay Trailer
Released just a month ago during Xbox and Bethesda’s June Showcase, A Plague Tale: Requiem’s “End of Innocence” trailer shows off some detailed environments, while also providing more of an insight into how the game’s stealth mechanics are going to work. While voice-over infers that Hugo is in some kind of grave danger, as is the rest of the nation, a variety of new locations are shown off ranging from dirt-covered roads, to bright green forests, to trenches filled with rotting corpses.
As the trailer hits its halfway mark, fans can see some environmental puzzling similar to the first game, with Amicia using her slingshot to light a torch, dispersing a swarm of rats and clearing the way into a house. The trailer then transitions into a montage of stealth sequences, the first of which sees Amicia hide from an Inquisition soldier underneath a table. Some more stealth takedowns, crossbow action, and slingshot kills are shown off, emphasizing A Plague Tale: Requiem’s varied selection of tools. The trailer then ends with Hugo being urged to use his powers once again, and the camera cuts to a sea of rats rushing to engulf a guard.
A Plague Tale: Requiem - Extended Gameplay Trailer
The most recent A Plague Tale: Requiem trailer dropped a few weeks ago with 12 minutes of gameplay. Unlike the trailers released prior, this one opens on a more hopeful note with Amicia being pushed on a swing by Hugo as the two discuss getting a swing in their “new house.” Though it’s only a quick 20-second segment, this might suggest that A Plague Tale: Requiem will have more environmental interactivity, which rewards players with character interactions.
The trailer then cuts to Amicia and Hugo talking to a man about reaching an island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, which is presumably where the duo believes a cure is located. Before they can see a map, the Inquisition barges into town, demanding to know where they are. A chase sequence is then shown off, where Amicia and Hugo flee from the Inquisition, both taking some serious falls along the way. As the two run into an underground structure, Hugo taps into a new ability, sensing the guards around the corner using a swarm of rats.
The next few minutes of the trailer shows off more of Plague Tale: Requiem’s stealth gameplay, with Amicia using a pot item to distract a guard, and her crossbow to take one out. Though the item wheel is only on-screen for a few moments, it seems as though the crossbow’s ammo is limited. As the sequence transitions outside, the game’s more open-ended environments are shown off, hinting at many routes to completing an objective. During this sequence, a few more tools are shown off, including a firebomb, stone pellet for the slingshot, and a smoke bomb. The trailer ends with Hugo taking control of rats to protect his sister, but he loses control and falls unconscious, leaving Amicia to face the swarm by herself.
A Plague Tale: Requiem releases on October 18, 2022 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
