Because there seems to be a strong theme of past and future epochs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players can expect this to be reflected in the selection of available critters for each game, and possibly even in the available regional variants for existing monsters. Still, the trailer also revealed some of the Pokemon that will likely be found in the starting areas of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, from a new Electric-type to the typical Normal-type that can easily be found across the first few routes.

All the New Pokemon Revealed in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s June Trailer
There are not many new Pokemon revealed in June’s trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but the very first to make its appearance on screen is a cute Electric-type fluffy rodent-like creature. This Pokemon is the one Nemona uses in what looks to be the players’ first battle in Gen 9 soon after selecting their starter, and it emits sparks of joy. This critter is called Pawmi, and while its long ears and tail will likely make it a beloved critter, it also looks like one that could strike with lightning on command.
Another new Pokemon shown in the trailer is a small, frightened olive-like creature that seems to be inspired by the olive oil culture of Western Europe, particularly that of Spain, Portugal, and Italy. This creature is a Grass/Normal dual type, and it is aptly called Smoliv to make its source of inspiration even more obvious. Smoliv is likely going to be the customary Grass-type critter found in early routes alongside Normal-types and Flying-types, even though that role is sometimes reserved for Bug-types.
A new Internet sensation might have been born in today’s trailer, as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will feature a hog Pokemon called Lechonk, which is a great name considering modern memes. Lechonk is another of Nemona’s Pokemon, and it is exclusively Normal-type. According to the official website for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Lechonk is also very good at finding Berries with its nose, which may turn out to be an in-game mechanic.
Last but not least, the trailer revealed both the mascot Pokemon for Pokemon Scarlet and that for Pokemon Violet, respectively called Koraidon and Miraidon. These Legendary Pokemon are revealed toward the end of the trailer, and they likely embrace the themes of past versus future that Generation 9 games seem to revolve around, with Koraidon looking more akin to ancient mythological creatures and Miraidon being a dragon-like Pokemon with jet engines. Overall, it’s likely that more and more critters will be revealed throughout the summer, especially with Gen 9’s gimmick still being unknown. While July would be the perfect opportunity to reveal them, fans will have to stay patient as they wait for more information.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release on November 18 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
