The Biggest Games of September
Although the list of games scheduled to release in September is not long, they are largely remarkable. Perhaps most anticipated for many, the Nintendo Switch exclusive Splatoon 3 will hit shelves on September 9th. The Splatoon series has gamers taking part in turf wars where ink is the preferred ammunition. Splatoon 3 will be bringing many improvements to the game, including new weapons that are bound to make the franchise’s competitive scene more exciting. A gameplay trailer at a recent Nintendo Direct event raised anticipation for the game, as it illustrated that it will make it easier to connect with friends.
Naughty Dog is releasing a remake of The Last of Us, and it will feature plenty of visual, audio, and gameplay upgrades, as well as plenty of new accessibility options. The Last of Us Part 1 will take advantage of the DualSense controller to integrate haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, enhancing the game’s already high immersion. The game arrives just in time for the television adaptation of Joel and Ellie’s journey, which is scheduled to arrive in 2023.

Although the franchise has been criticized for bringing yearly releases with minimal improvements, FIFA 23 promises to include new technology that will enhance gameplay and increase realism. This is being done through a system called HyperMotion2 which uses match captures and machine learning from real-world football matches to create thousands of in-game animations. HyperMotion2, along with a system called Technical Dribbling which is designed to improve ball handling and turning for gamers, will be limited to PC and current-generation consoles.

All platforms will receive great games in September, and some of them have been anticipated for a long time. This includes Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded, which lands on PC and Xbox consoles on September 27th. It has been available on early access since 2020, receiving good reviews, which sets the game up for a triumphant official launch. The indie game Tunic will also be released on the 27th on PlayStation consoles, and it has enjoyed positive reviews since it was released on PC and Xbox consoles in March.
