The series featured players from both franchises like X-Men, Spider-Man, Ryu, Chun-Li, and even villains like Thanos. The cross-over was acclaimed by fans and critics for its creative art, advanced mechanics, and iconic music. For the purposes of this list, we’re including some spiritual predecessors to the main “Marvel Vs Capcom” series as well. Here is a look at the best and worst game of the series.
10 X-Men: Children Of The Atom
Before Marvel and Capcom ventured into creating Marvel vs Capcom series. They had to test the waters for the potential of such a series. The result was X-Men Children of The Atom, releasing in 1995. An action-packed game filled with different X-Men characters- each one having their own special moves and stages. It was Street Fighter 2 in the wrapping of X-Men.
This does not mean that the game itself had a lower standard. The animations were fluid and it served its purpose as a great 1 on 1 fighting game.
9 Marvel Super Heroes
Marvel Super Heroes was a followup of the X-Men Children Of The Atom releasing in the same year (1995). This storyline was based upon, none other than, The Infinity Gauntlet. It brought characters from the Avengers like Iron Man, The Hulk, Spider-Man, and Captain America. Each character’s combat style from comics was smoothly adapted in the game.
A meter was build during the match, that unleashed an Infinity Combo. The execution of moves was kept simple to encourage newcomers. It was a fun spamming game.
8 Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super-Heroes
Clash of Super-Heroes was the third entry in the Marvel vs Capcom series. It pits fighters from both universes to make one hell of a crossover. The Dreamcast version had five modes and 15 playable characters. The final boss was a villain from X-Men, Onslaught. The 20 additional guest characters were only for assist attacks, making the game a half baked crossover

The animations were made faster and seamless, but that also raised the skill gap in new players. It was more focused on competitive players. Aside from that, the game looks impressive even today with bursting colors and flashy moves.
7 X-Men vs Street Fighter
It was the first game in Marvel vs Capcom series. The fighters from the previous Marvel games and Street Fighter face up each other. It has a tag battle system, where two characters collaborate to perform special combos. Every character got buffs to make the game more competitive. It took a lot from its predecessor including super jump and aerial rave.

There was also a story mode. It became a hit in the US and got the most successful arcade game award in Japan in 1996. Fans loved it for its fast-paced gameplay and vivid animation.
6 Marvel Vs Capcom: Origins
Marvel Vs Capcom: Origins was a tribute to, more than a decade old, games Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and Marvel Super Heroes. This compilation was released on Xbox 360 and Ps3 in 2012, including tons of additional content but staying true to the original experience and gameplay.
The most prominent new features were online mode, high definition support, smoother graphics, and secret characters. Origins used the nostalgia card, that contributed to most its success.
5 Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter was the 2nd entry in the Marvel vs Capcom series, released in 1997. It was heavily influenced by previous games. X-Men characters were replaced with Marvel characters like Captain America, Spider-Man, and The Hulk. The Japanese version even had a strange character, Norimaro( which was a cameo from a Japanese comedian).

The roster featured 17 characters, with 6 secret characters. Huge combos, high damage attacks, and assist attacks (calling the tag partner to perform a special move) were added, which enhanced the overall gameplay quality. Capcom delivered a solid and balanced fighting game.
4 Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite
Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite was released in 2017. The two universes of Capcom and Marvel are merged by Ultron Sigma (a fusion of Marvel’s Ultron and Capcom’s Sigma). Now the heroes and the villains have teamed up for an epic battle royal. This game had a new take on everything. Many characters were given new stuff, which made them refreshing and fun to play.
Gameplay was 10/10, which makes up for all the minor flaws. Tag-team combos and the use of infinity stones opened up endless opportunities to make strategies. Online mode was fixed by reducing input lag and balanced matchmaking. MVCI was one of the best Capcom fighting games.
3 Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
Marvel vs Capcom 3 was a 2.5D game meaning the graphics were 3D but the gameplay was restricted to 2D. It also features the 3 on 3 tag team system and special moves like assist attack and snapbacks. For the first time, online multiplayer matches were added. This game set a new standard for 2D fighting games.
Additional characters like Deadpool were also added. This game reduced the skill gap by making the gameplay less complex and promoting newcomers to the game. More than 2 million copies were shipped within the first month of its launch. In 2010, it received the " Best Fighting Game of E3" award.
2 Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom was originally a DLC for Fate of Two Worlds but due to its huge size of additional content. Capcom decided to present it as a stand-alone title. 12 new playable characters were added from different franchises of Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Doctor Strange. It is better from its predecessor in every way
New stages, modes, and game fixes were included to make the game more smooth and enhance the player’s online experience. Aerial Combat and X-Factor was patched up for balanced gameplay. Few changes were also made in the art to give it the feel of a new game.
1 Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
This game sits at the top and truly deserves it. Capcom went crazy by putting 53 characters in its roster. Developers added new features, a “snapback attack”, which if timed perfectly will swap the characters, and brought back older ones like assist attack. Combat was 3 on 3, so players were able to create endless combinations of teams.
The Marvel vs Capcom series, at its core, is about pitting fighters from both universes. Therefore, this game contains the most popular comics and gaming characters and just lets them go nuts. Everyone’s favorite was in this game. It has an active and growing community, even after a decade. It sits in the ranks of Melee and Street Fighter 3, and praised by many as the best fighting game ever,
