The Announcement Trailer
The newest addition to the Digimon franchise may have officially been announced in the July 2018 issue of V Jump – a Japanese Manga and gaming publication – but a trailer soon followed to give players a taste of Digimon Survive. The teaser trailer showed a gorgeous anime world with haunting aesthetics and hinted at some mysteries to uncover as the characters find themselves in a strange parallel world. From the first trailer, the game hammers home the idea that players will be in charge of making decisions that can have potentially deadly consequences – an intriguing gameplay dynamic that promised to add some new dimensions to a Digimon game.
The Release Date Reveal
After years of delays and a very uncertain future, fans were relieved when the release date was officially set for Digimon Survive. Bandai Namco released a short clip to reveal the long-awaited launch date for the upcoming game, announcing that players would finally be able to get their hands on the title exactly four years after it was first revealed in 2018. This has been a very long time coming for fans of the franchise, and the developer promised that players would see more of Digimon Survive in the months leading up to its launch.
Bringing The Characters To Life
While players knew that Digimon Survive was centered around a story of survival in a mysterious, mist-covered world, they didn’t know too much about the characters. Released in March, the Character Trailer delved deeper into Takuma Momozuka and his Digimon pal Agumon’s world as the camping trip they take during a school break doesn’t quite go according to plan. Other characters and their accompanying Digimon were also properly introduced, like Minoru Hinata and Falcomon, and Aoi Shibuya and Labramon.
Glimpses Of Gameplay
In the past few months, players have been able to see much more of Digimon Survive as its release date creeps ever closer. With a few looks at how the hybrid gameplay encompasses a number of modes like “Drama Parts”, “Search Action”, “Free Action”, and “Free Battle”, players can see the mix between visual novel storytelling, exploration, and tactical battle elements. Digimon Survive looks like an intriguing new entry into the popular Digimon franchise, and after the very long wait, hopefully fans will be satisfied with the end result.
Digimon Survive is scheduled to launch on July 29 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
