New Trials of Osiris Passages
By and large, Trials of Osiris is very similar to the version available in Destiny 1, albeit with some key changes. First and foremost, players cannot purchase boons for their Trials passage. Instead, there are several different Trials of Osiris passages available to use, each with their own inherent boon.
They are:
Passage of Confidence (Increased rewards in the Lighthouse chest) Passage of Ferocity (A third win counts as two wins when currently flawless) Passage of Mercy (Forgives 1 loss on the Passage) Passage of Wealth (Wins grant more Trials tokens) Passage of Wisdom (Gain bonus XP for wins on a Trials Passage)
With these different passages, Destiny 2 players can dictate their goals in Trials of Osiris. Some may want to farm gear, many want a failsafe in case they lose, and others are simply looking for XP. But for most players the ultimate goal is getting to the Lighthouse.
How to Get to the Lighthouse
Getting to the Lighthouse in Destiny 2 requires 7 wins with no losses. In Destiny 1, players were trying to accumulate a total of 9 wins, but through the use of boons they only really needed 7. Bungie decided to cut out some of the fluff and make the goal 7, but by also giving players the option to speed up the process should they so choose. So some players will only need to win 6 games of Trials of Osiris, but they also don’t have a safety net in the form of a Mercy.
Once players are victorious in Trials of Osiris and do reach the Lighthouse, there are some key differences in that reward space as well. First and foremost, all Destiny 2 players should know that they can only visit The Lighthouse one time with a Flawless passage. The game makes sure that the player collects their loot but it is not possible to travel back and forth to the Lighthouse like in Destiny 1. Once the Lighthouse chest has been unlocked and the player returns to orbit, they will need to go Flawless all over again in order to reach Mercury’s Lighthouse once again.
Lighthouse Chest Rewards
While the Lighthouse lockout might seem counterintuitive, it’s actually designed that way for a good reason. Unlike in Destiny 1, Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2 can be “farmed” for rewards. Players can visit the Lighthouse as many times as they want and collect rewards each time they accrue 7 wins without a loss. There is no weekly lockout on a character, and in essence, Trials of Osiris becomes like the PvP version of a Nightfall Ordeal.
Rewards from the Lighthouse chest include a glow for the Trials of Osiris armor that lasts about two weeks, an armor piece or weapon, emblems for the first time that players go Flawless, and the chance for upgrade materials. Both Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards can drop from the Lighthouse chest, so it’s well worth trying to go Flawless multiple times.
Overall, the changes to Trials of Osiris for Destiny 2 don’t radically change the mode but they add some much-needed improvements. There is still a debate over whether going Flawless is as important as it was in Destiny 1 thanks to Adept weapons, but even just participating in the Crucible mode is rewarding now.
